Alternative approaches to effort prediction of ERP projects

نویسنده

چکیده

There exist many effort prediction systems but none speci®cally devised for enterprise resource planning (ERP) projects, and the empirical evidence is neither convincing nor adequate from a human user perspective. Consequently, this non-empirical evaluation contributes knowledge by investigating: (i) their applicability to ERP projects, (ii) their added value to a human user beyond making a prediction, and (iii) if they make sense. The analysis suggests that regression analysis seems to be the best choice as an ERP prediction system, and that ANGEL, ACE, CART and OSR primarily add value to a user in exploratory data analysis by their ability to identify similar projects. q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Experimental Evaluation of Algorithmic Effort Estimation Models using Projects Clustering

One of the most important aspects of software project management is the estimation of cost and time required for running information system. Therefore, software managers try to carry estimation based on behavior, properties, and project restrictions. Software cost estimation refers to the process of development requirement prediction of software system. Various kinds of effort estimation patter...

Predicting the implementation effort of ERP projects: empirical evidence on SAP/R3

A common experience among companies that have undertaken ERP projects is incurring high expenditures, which frequently outgrow their initial budgets by signiŽ cant percentage values (cf. Saunders, 1999; Scheer and Habermann, 2000). In some cases, ERPs seem to have failed the cost-reduction promises that encouraged companies to embark on extensive replacements of their basic information technolo...

An Improved COCOMO based Model to Estimate the Effort of Software Projects

One of important aspects of software projects is estimating the cost and time required to develop projects. Nowadays, this issue has become one of the key concerns of project managers. Accurate estimation of essential effort to produce and develop software is heavily effective on success or failure of software projects and it is highly regarded as a vital factor. Failure to achieve convincing a...

Sizing ERP Implementation Projects: An Activity-Based Approach

ERP implementation projects are large and risky projects for organizations, because they affect large parts of an implementing organization and lead to changes in the way an organization performs its tasks. For these reasons ERP projects can be considered different from implementing large information systems and should be treated as such. The costs needed for the effort to implement these syste...
